About Gary Semics Motocross Schools & Videos

Hello! I’m Gary Semics:

Gary Semics
Motocross Instructor Gary Semics

My name is Gary Semics & I’ve been teaching motocross for over 30 years. I know what most riders want. They want to have fun riding and/or racing. They want to ride with more speed and control, to ride hard longer without getting so tired, to ride safer and not get hurt.
I have trained many thousands of riders from MX beginners to the world’s best, including McGrath & Villopoto.
Over the last 32 years I’ve made becoming a better rider a branch of motorsport science.
I’m confident you’ll be happy with how much my Motocross Schools and/or Technique DVDs or Streaming videos can help you “Become a Better Rider”!

Gary Semics’ Teaching Credentials

By the time I was 14 I was racing about every weekend and practicing about 3 or 4 days per week.  By age 16 I was racing the open expert class and winning everything in PA, OH and NY. At age 18 Husqvarna started my Factory Racing Career. I stayed with Husky for 3 years (1972, 73 and 74). Then it was Factory Kawasaki for 3 years, then Can-Am for 1 year, then Honda for 1 year, Yamaha for 1 year and Suzuki for 1 year.  During that time I won the 500cc Supercross Championship for Husqvarna in 1974. I also won several Nationals and placed 2nd and 3rd in the AMA 500 National Series in 1976 and 1979. In 1977 I raced as a member of the U.S. team in the Motocross and Trophy des Nations that were held in France and Holland. In 1982 I began racing in the 500cc World Championship Grand Prix Series. My best year was 1982 when I placed 7th in the 500cc series. During my racing career I was always a top 5 finisher in World Class Motocross Competitions.

Gary Semics HuskyI’m proud of my accomplishments because I know how hard I worked at it but at the same time I realize I could have done better if I knew how to prepare better.  If I knew how to test and adjust the bike better, how to learn and practice better, how to make better decisions, not only in racing but in life in general.
I guess you could say I learned by trial and error, by making mistakes, learning the hard way, going to the school of hard knocks.
I believe that falling short of my potential, as many other racers have done, gave me the motivation to teach and coach young upcoming motocross riders to not make the mistakes I had made, to do things correctly and to bring out the best in them.

Gary Semics GP WorksIn 1985 when my pro racing career ended, I couldn’t just stop racing all together.  So I went full circle back to racing the local scene in SO CAL as a privateer.  That was when I also began teaching motocross schools.  I raced pretty much every weekend and did schools for the next 13 years in Southern California.  I then moved back to my home state of Ohio and did the same there for the next 16 years.
Now, at 62 I don’t race anymore, still ride a little and still train off the mx bike a lot.
Over the years  I’ve trained thousands of riders, but the one’s you’ve probably heard the most about are Jeremy McGrath, Kevin Windham and Ryan Villopoto,. I was Jeremy’s personal trainer for most of his career. I trained Kevin and Ryan for a few years back in their earlier days.
I have trained and coached many other top pro motocross racers, including John Dowd, Ezra Lusk, Mike Brown, Brock Hepler, Stephane Roncada, Brock Sellards, Steve Lamson, Ernesto Fonseca, Brian Swink, Kyle Lewis, Jiri Dostal and Branden Jesseman. I’ve also trained Off-Road heroes Fred Andrews, Chuck Woodford and Rich Lafferty. All these racers combined have won 26 AMA Pro Championships!
I have found that I have a real knack for teaching, and it has become my goal to train motocross riders around the world.  Not only am I doing this through my personal schools and Training DVDs but also by Certifying MX Instructors around the world to teach under my school’s format.  Currently there are 9 GSMXS Certified MX Instructors.

In an effort to help all Motocross enthusiasts, I produced the “Gary Semics Motocross Techniques” DVD Series. The 3 volume series presently includes 20 technique DVDs, 2 motocross fitness training DVDs, The 2 Day MX School DVD, some other stand alone DVDs, one historic DVD called (The Evolution of Motocross), 2 CDs and a Motocross Practice Manual for a total of 28 DVDs as of September 2015. The DVD content is also available as Streaming Video.

Through my motocross schools, instructional DVDs, and the popular Motocross Practice  Manual, I have introduced over a half million amateur riders to what I have dubbed “The 55 Absolute Techniques of Motocross” – commandments for the motocross track, deigned to give riders ideal body position and balance while accelerating, cornering, jumping, braking, along with mastery of each of the motorcycle’s five controls. Maintaining the center of balance and mastering the use of the throttle, brakes, clutch and shifter are the fundamentals which serve as the whole foundation of Motocross riding Skills.
But there are dozens of individual techniques to learn and practice that go into mastering these fundamentals. When a rider can automatically perform all the techniques correctly and shred the entire course with a style all his own, it’s way more than just dirt bike riding or motocross riding; it’s an Art form.
Here at my Motocross School and with my instructional Motocross Training DVDs and Streaming Video on Demand Service we’re all about offering the most effective coaching, training and motocross instruction to bring out the best in every rider; whether they are in the C class or one of the world’s best.
Maximize your motocross potential here with us at GSMXS.

Keep it real, keep an attitude of gratitude:
