Hi, my name is Gary Semics. With over 50 years of experience racing and teaching motocross, I know what most riders want: to become better, safer riders. Avoid crashes and injuries by learning to ride with more control, smoothness, speed, and efficiency—making the experience more fun too!
I've trained thousands of riders, from MX beginners to the world’s best, like Jeremy McGrath and Ryan Villopoto.
My Training Methods
Over the last 35+ years, I've developed a systematic approach to breaking down motocross techniques into individual teaching blocks, or micro techniques. For instance, there are multiple braking techniques used while entering a corner, and I've created specific practice drills for each one.
I am confident you’ll be satisfied with how my Motocross Schools and Streaming Technique Videos can help you “Become a Better, Safer Rider”!

My motocross credentials have enabled me to help racers win 26 AMA Pro Championships! Back to the beginning, by the age of 15, I was racing nearly every weekend and practicing three to four days per week. At 16, I was winning in the open expert class in PA, OH, and NY. My professional racing career started with Husqvarna at age 18, followed by Factory Kawasaki, Can-Am, Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki. I won the 500cc Supercross Championship for Husqvarna in 1974, placed 2nd and 3rd in the AMA 500 National Series in 1976 and 1979, and competed in the 500cc World Championship Grand Prix Series in 1982, finishing 7th overall.
I’m proud of my accomplishments because I know how hard I worked at it but at the same time I realize I could have done better if I knew how to prepare better. If I knew how to test and adjust the bike better, how to learn and practice better, how to make better decisions, not only in racing but in life, as well.
I guess you could say I learned by trial and error, by making mistakes, learning the hard way, going to the school of hard knocks.
I believe that falling short of my potential, as many other racers have done, gave me the motivation to teach and coach young upcoming motocross riders to not make the mistakes I had made, to do things correctly, and to bring out the best in them.
In 1985 when my pro racing career ended, I couldn’t just stop racing all together. So I went full circle back to racing the local scene in SO CAL as a privateer. That was when I also began teaching motocross schools. I raced pretty much every weekend and did schools for the next 13 years in Southern California. I then moved back to my home state of Ohio and did the same there for the next 19 years.
My last race was the first time that I raced Lorreta Lynns in 2012. I won all three motos in the 50 Masters class at age 58. I finally had to stop riding dirt bikes all together at age 67 because of back problems. With my background in fitness training, I still bicycle, MTB, swim and weight train, keeping myself in top shape for my age, now at 70.
Over the years, I've trained top racers like Jeremy McGrath, Kevin Windham, Ryan Villopoto, John Dowd, Ezra Lusk and Mike Brown. Some of the other top pro motocross racers, but with less notoriety include Brock Hepler, Stephane Roncada, Brock Sellards, Steve Lamson, Ernesto Fonseca, Brian Swink, Kyle Lewis, Jiri Dostal and Branden Jesseman. I’ve also trained Off-Road heroes Fred Andrews, Chuck Woodford and Rich Lafferty. My MX and SX racers combined have won 26 AMA Pro Championships!
